The Graph, a well-known decentralized data indexing platform for blockchains, is embarking on a new journey to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into its ecosystem. Semiotic Labs recently released a white paper titled “The Graph as AI Infrastructure,” revealing two groundbreaking AI services: Inference and Agent.

This development marks a significant advancement for The Graph, as it expands its data services by integrating AI capabilities that have the potential to revolutionize how developers interact with blockchain data.

To showcase these capabilities, Semiotic Labs has introduced Agentc, a tool similar to ChatGPT that utilizes The Graph’s Uniswap data. Agentc allows users to engage in natural language conversations with blockchain data, demonstrating the power of The Graph as an AI infrastructure. For a two-week trial period, Agentc is available to the public.

After the demonstration, Semiotic Labs plans to release the codebase of Agentc as open source, fostering ongoing innovation within the developer community. This initiative highlights The Graph’s commitment to enhancing accessibility and functionality in the blockchain space.

The introduction of the Inference Service allows developers to host AI models directly within The Graph’s ecosystem. By utilizing the network’s decentralized pool of Indexers for computational tasks, this service ensures reliable hosting for AI models, while also benefiting from The Graph’s decentralized and efficient marketplace.

This infrastructure is particularly important for decentralized applications (dApps) that aim to integrate sophisticated AI functionalities, such as conversational AI agents, into their applications without relying on centralized solutions.

Additionally, the Agent Service provides developers with the necessary tools to create autonomous, AI-driven dApps capable of executing complex interactions within blockchain environments. This service utilizes The Graph’s robust data handling capabilities to empower dApps with responsive and intelligent functionalities that can operate independently based on user interactions and on-chain activities.

Both services signify The Graph’s strategic shift towards making decentralized AI a core feature of its offerings, with the goal of combining AI with Web3 to create more dynamic and responsive applications.

The introduction of these AI services by The Graph builds upon its significant contributions to the decentralized web since its establishment in 2018. The Graph has played a vital role in providing a reliable platform for data indexing across more than 50 blockchains, enabling the development of numerous dApps. The white paper explains how the Inference and Agent services will enhance The Graph’s utility and establish it as an indispensable resource in the emerging AI-powered Web3 landscape.

Furthermore, The Graph’s ongoing research and development efforts focus on integrating verifiable AI and enhancing its services with knowledge graph-enhanced large language models (KGLLMs). This research is crucial in ensuring the veracity and reliability of AI interactions within the blockchain space, guaranteeing transparency and security for AI-driven applications.
