Polygon Labs, a leading company in the field of ZK engineering, has recently announced a significant acquisition of Toposware, a highly promising startup. This acquisition is expected to propel the ZK technology to new heights.
The Polygon Labs team is delighted to welcome Toposware, a powerhouse of zk innovation and technology, to their organization. Toposware has played a key role in the development of the Type 1 zkEVM and has made remarkable progress in zk-based interoperability.
In the first half of this year, Toposware and Polygon Labs collaborated to create a Type 1 ZKEVM prover. This ZK proving technology has revolutionized the blockchain sector, and credit goes to the pioneering work of the Toposware team.
Polygon Labs has officially confirmed the addition of Toposware to their company. The merger of Toposware with Polygon’s existing ZK invention teams is expected to spark advancements in several core areas, including AggLayer, Polygon CDK & Polygon zkEVM, and an upgraded version of Polygon as a ZK validium.
Toposware is an active member of the ZK research community and has been instrumental in creating the Type 1 prover, a significant open-source contribution to the Ethereum ecosystem. The incorporation of the Type 1 prover can enhance the security of existing chains or connect to the AggLayer, which provides a neutral and interoperable network for sovereign blockchains.
While the Type 1 prover represents a major improvement and has proven to be cost-efficient in verifying Ethereum transactions, it is not a complete solution. However, the purchase of Toposware is expected to drive positive changes across all Polygon protocols. The community is currently conducting research to connect the Polygon PoS network to the AggLayer in the coming months, with TopoSWAP playing a crucial role in transitioning the network to a ZK-protected chain.
Over the years, Polygon Labs has been at the forefront of ZK research and development, bridging the gap between theory and practical application. The widespread adoption of Plonky3, an open-source technology used to build SP1, is a testament to the influence of Polygon’s research on other ZK teams.
