Polygon Labs, a leading company in the field, acquires Toposware to spearhead the advancement of ZK technology.

Polygon Labs has made a significant acquisition by welcoming Toposware, a promising startup in the ZK engineering field, to their team. This acquisition will propel the ZK technology to new heights.
Today, we are thrilled to announce that Toposware, a powerhouse of zk innovation and technology, has joined the Polygon Labs team. They have played a key role in the development of the Type 1 zkEVM and have made remarkable progress in zk-based interoperability.

Polygon Labs and Toposware have collaborated in the first half of this year to create a Type 1 ZKEVM prover. ZK proving technology has been a groundbreaking advancement in the blockchain industry, and we owe a special thanks to the Toposware team, who are well-known pioneers in this field.
Polygon Labs has officially announced the merger with Toposware. This union of talent and expertise is expected to drive innovation in various core areas, including AggLayer, Polygon CDK & Polygon zkEVM, and an upgrade for Polygon as a ZK validium.
Toposware is an active member of the ZK research community and has contributed significantly to the Ethereum ecosystem with the creation of the Type 1 prover. The addition of the Type 1 prover enhances the security of existing chains and allows them to connect to the AggLayer, which provides a neutral and interoperable network for sovereign blockchains.
While the Type 1 prover is a cost-efficient solution for proving Ethereum transactions, it is not a complete solution. However, it has shown great promise, with transaction costs of $0.0029 and $0.534 to prove an Ethereum block when the announcement was made in February.
The acquisition of Toposware is expected to have a positive impact on all Polygon protocols. Research is currently underway to connect the Polygon PoS network to the AggLayer in the coming months, with the involvement of TopoSWAP playing a crucial role in transitioning the network to a ZK-protected chain.
Polygon Labs has been at the forefront of ZK research and development in the industry, moving from theory to practical application. The rapid adoption of Plonky3, an open-source technology used to build SP1, is a testament to the influence of Polygon’s research on other ZK teams.
